Retaining walls can be constructed from a range of materials including timber sleepers poles or posts. These can be used as an effective barrier to construct steps, garden beds and terraced retaining walls on sloped properties. Retaining walls are also an effective remedy for halting the progress of erosion. An important consideration when constructing any retaining wall is the installation of adequate drainage, to prevent water and moisture build up on the retaining structure. This can cause rot and may lead to the collapse of the wall completely.
